It's just a word. They used to call people with LD subnormal, and before that mentally defective and before that they called them idiots morons or imbeciles depending on the level of their disability. Mong comes from mongol which was based on the appearance of such people. Calling someone a fucking moron is OK but calling them a mong isn't...why?
I do think calling Harry Kane a mong is disrespectful to downs people, in the same way as calling sours fans yid is disrespectful to jewish people. How would you like to be called a spurs fan?

Also, we all look for shorthand reference points in our everyday conversations and, unfortunately, anything or anyone that different from "normality" will get picked up and used; some that were appropriate in the innocence of childhood often have a reluctance to drop out of use once we become adults.
